Process
Zadie & Co. designed the organization’s new grant program with the goal of addressing gaps in the nonprofit funding environment. Working closely with Focal Point’s board of directors, Zadie & Co. launched the grant, assessed applications, interviewed finalists, and recommended grantees to the organization’s board.
Challenge
Focal Point is a nonprofit that was established in the 1960s to fund cutting-edge medical research. In 2022, they worked with Zadie & Co. to create their philanthropy charter and reimagine how they could serve as a catalyst for innovation. During this process, Focal Point decided to create a grant program to fund visionary nonprofit leaders pursuing innovative solutions to difficult problems.

Comprehensive program and design management
Zadie & Co. designed and managed the grant program from start to finish, including developing application criteria and scoring rubrics, managing communications with applicants and grantees, and facilitating the final interview and selection process.
$150,000 unleashed for good in year 1
Seventy-seven organizations applied for the grant, six final candidates were interviewed, and two nonprofits were selected to receive funding to pursue a cutting-edge idea in their field. Year 2 of the program is underway.

Increased board momentum
Zadie & Co. provides ongoing coaching and facilitation support for the organization's board.
